Luke Towers in Roosters Flegg Team
Congratulations goes out to Luke and his parents Michelle & John, for his inclusion in the Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg side last week against Cronulla. Luke was a “Favourite Son” of Clovelly for many season’s until 2004 when his U14’s side had to fold. It was both disappointing for his father John who coached the side and Luke also as they are both locals and were very loyal to the club.
Luke has been playing at Bondi the past few years and was in this years SG Ball team, and was a standout. Luke’s ability was always evident as a junior player, and his speed and anticipation will excite many spectators in the near future. not only is Luke a great footballer, he is level headed and a true gentleman. We wish Luke all the success in his football over the next few years, and everyone at Clovelly will be following his progress with interest.
The club would also like to congratulate a Bondi United Stalwart, Tom Symonds, for also making the side. Tom had a stint with the Crocs when he was 7 & 8 when Bondi couldn’t field a side in his age group, and took out all our trophies for his age in those two seasons. To his parents Kerrie & Peter, and the Legend Yooka & lovely wife Joan, we at Clovelly also wish Tom all the success.
Its good that these two boys have been given the opportunity this year under the new coaching structure. Had players such as our Daniel Ezekiel been treated better in 2006 and prior, they may have stayed on and not gone elsewhere.

Daniel Ezekiel going places at the Bulldogs!
Daniel Ezekiel has been setting the house on fire out Belmore way in 2007! Leading the big Bulldog Jersey Flegg forward pack around the field, he has been instrumental in scoring and setting up numerous tries and wins for the team.
The Bulldogs are sitting 3rd in the comp and Daniel’s recent hand in demolising the Roosters 38-10 was sweet justice for the youngster. Showing his outstanding qualities as a halfback (which we all knew here) Daniel has silenced all those critics that had him earmarked for a the hooking position.
A few Canterbury supporters have asked “Why did the Roosters let this kid go? We can only shake our heads!
He looks set for a bright future - We know how good he is, and all here at Clovelly are going for the ride! |
I had the great pleasure in seeing one of our ex-Croc's players be awarded his debutant jersey at the recent Roosters 100th Season Launch. Shaun Kenny-Dowall will play wing against the Bunnies in Round 1 after putting in the hard yards and impressing the coaching staff at the Roosters with his hard work and attitude. I have known Shaun since coming from NZ over 2 years ago and am so proud of his efforts and wish him all the best for the season... we hope it's a great one!!
Congratulations Shaun another great way to start 2007!!

GREAT NEWS FOR THE CROC's
It gives me great pleasure to announce that 2 of our U15's have made the Sydney Roosters U16's Harold Matthews Squad for 2007. They are club stalwart Jack Wallace who plays Prop or Second Row and Matua King-Brooks who started with my side last season and made an immediate impact in the Centres. Both boys are extremely talented, have trained extremely hard during summer, have developed the correct attitude towards training and playing, and are both true gentlemen. For these reasons they have been rewarded with early inclusion into rep football. Had Darren Schai, our other centre not been injured, he too would also have been a strong candidate for selection.
Congratulations from all of us at Clovelly and well deserved. |

U12 Player makes NSW PSSA side!
Jason Gray, one of the fantastic players from the Croc's U12 Blues has been selected in the NSW PSSA Open side to play this weekend in QLD. Unfortunately, it means he won't be able to play for the Croc's this weekend against Alex Rovers in the Grand Final but we would like to wish Jason good luck for his debut. Jason is a fantastic sportsman and I have no doubt that this won't be the first time, or the last that he represents NSW (and maybe even Australia) in his chosen sport.Good Luck Jason!!

EX-CROC SELECTED IN AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS XV!
Phillip Braban (17) who was a major player with Clovelly in the 1990's, has recently won selection in the Australian Schoolboys rugby Union squad.
Phillip, the son of ex-President Drew Braban, moved to Brisbane when his family relocated there due to Drew's work as a legal advisor with the Australian Armed Forces.
Phillip was Captain of our wonderful U6 Premiers in 1995, that were undefeated, and coached by Brad Peterson. Phillip was a standout player then, and it is no surprise of his success.
Many of our committee still remember the Brabans' fondly and the work that both Drew & Di did at the club through its revitalising years. They were just tremendous.
We all at Clovelly wish Phillip a great deal of success in his future football.
- Syd Eckstein
P.S To Drew & Di: We told you when you left, we'll send the Roosters up to see him...and we will!

***Extra News***
Daniel Ezekiel was named Captain of the NSW CHS team at the Australian Schoolboys Championships this week. Congrats Daniel!

Myles Season is Over!
Myles Cooper-Payten (U19s) will be having a knee reconstruction after a training mishap.
Myles was on the verge of attaining 150 games near the end of the season. He has missed 2 seasons in the past due to collar-bone injuries and would surely be at around 200 games if not for those reasons. Myles has achieved "Junior Clubman" Status on two occasions.
He is a highly regarded junior of this club, and we all wish him well this Thursday when he goes in for his op!
Get well soon Myles!

Some more fantastic achievements by some of our Croc's players:
- Joe Lichaa (A Grade Captain 1999) made his 1st grade debut last month for South Sydney against Canberra. Congrats Joe, a worthy callup!
- Luke Towers played in the NSW U17 team that played QLD prior to the State of Origin 2 in Brisbane. Congrats Luke well deserved.
- Daniel Ezekiel will be playing in the NSW CHS team at halfback in the Australian Schoolboy Championships in a fortnight. Daniel will be lining up against another Rooster in Mitchell Pearce (CCC) and hopefully both Roosters will snare Australian schoolboy jumpers, if not for the upcoming tests against the KIWIS, maybe on the Schoolboys tour of Great Britain at the end of the year. Goodluck Daniel! Show 'em your brilliance!
- Shaun Kenny-Dowall has been selected for the Junior Kiwis to play Australia in about a months time. Shaun has capped a great year, rising from Flegg to play some Premier League and score an renewed contract with the Roosters! Great stuff Shaun!

SHAUN KENNY-DOWALL SELECTED FOR NSW U19s!
At 11 am on Monday, Shaun Kenny-Dowall was called in to the U19 NSW (NRL) team to take on QLD U19s in the curtain-raiser to the 1st State of Origin match at Telstra Stadium. He has been selected at fullback. This is a massive boost to Shaun's career and we all wish him the best. If you are going out, keep your eye on the talented NSW fullback. He is a very exciting player, and give him a big CROCODILE cheer!
HOT OFF THE PRESS! - Wednesday 24th May 2006
After 4 days in Dubbo for the NSW Combined Schools Open age Championships, Champion halfback Daniel 'OX' Ezekiel was named as NSW CHS halfback for the up coming Australian titles. Daniel has been an outstanding junior & clubman for the CROCS and this will be a special honour for him. We wish him success, and with him being allowed to play his type of game, he will hopefully score an Australian Schoolboys jumper! That'll be egg on some people's faces!!! |
Congratulations!! Shaun KENNY-DOWALL
Clovelly Crocodile, Shaun Kenny-Dowall has been promoted to Premier League and will play for Newtown against the Bulldogs this week.
Shaun's dramatic rise is purely due to his talent and commitment.
The whole club wishes him well this weekend and throughout the season.
In a couple of years, Shaun may just be in Carmichael Hunts position - Aussie or Kiwi? Go get 'em Shaun! |
DANIEL JARVIS
Daniel Jarvis is now playing with St George and the club wishes him well in his endeavours.
You couldn't find a more hard working, dedicated as well as talented player than Daniel. He was awarded the "Coach's awards" at the Roosters 2 years running - that's the kiss of death! |

Harold Matthews & SG Ball Squads Finalised
Big Congrats to Brendan McKinnon (Harold Matthews) and Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Daniel Ezekiel and Richard Barrett who have made the SG Ball squad. Also congrats to Luke Towers (Clovelly Junior now at Bondi 17s) who also made the SG Ball squad. Luke Towers who was a major player with the Crocs and was selected from this club to the Roosters development squads has been selected to play in the SG Ball squad. Luke has been contracted to the Roosters as he is a player of special qualities. The club would like to wish him and his family major success in his rep football, as well as the on coming season with United. We will be monitoring his progess as a club.
Commiserations to Myles Cooper-Payten and Dallin Edwards who unfortunately missed the final cut. We know you two local boys should have been there, and as a club we are extremely diappointed for you. But keep trying hard as you never know what opportunities are still around.

16 year old local Clovelly boy, Riley Flanagan (100+ games for the Crocs) is one of the new faces for the upcoming Australian Tourist Board advertisment campaign. Now a keen Bronte surfer, Reilly was a no nonsense tackling machine in his league days with us. His older brothers Ryan and Joel also played with the Crocs.
The club would like to wish Reilly all the best in these future endeavours, and we are sure he will take any challenges "Head-On" like his footy!
So keep a watch out for this future star of TV and the big screen! Congrats to you Riley!
